The International Young Democrat Union joins Juventude Democratas Brasil and our other member organizations in South America to condemn Venezuela’s government for its lack of consideration when it comes to respecting the limits of power and the values of democracy.

A new episode of this sad novel happened today when Nicolas Maduro’s administration, in a controversial move, decided to arrest Antonio Ledezma, one of the leaders of the opposition and mayor of Caracas, capital city of the country.

The continuous acts against the opposition prove that people in Venezuela already live under an authoritarian regime.

IYDU hopes that every democratic country around the world, specially in Latin America, manifest its opinion against the aforementioned facts and recognize that democracy, justice and freedom have to be given back to Venezuelan citizens.
